Owner: Larry Miller In 1965 Ford budgeted $4.5 million for the racing season. Carroll Shelby was put in charge of the racing program due to his success with the Cobras and his European racing experience in the 50's. Carroll replaced the Colotti gearbox with a ZF, wire wheels with Halibrands and installed the 289 Cobra racing engine. Wins at Daytona and Sebring followed. In 1966 the GT40 placed 1st, 2nd 3rd at Daytona, 2nd & 3rd at Sebring and 1st, 2nd 3rd at LeMans. The GT40 was the first an American car to win at LeMans. P/1021 was successfully campaigned in over 30 races in Europe. Race History:
