Dan Gurney became the first American to win a Can-Am Race which was also the first win for a Can-Am car powered by a Ford Gurney-Weslake 350ci Motor.

The first Gurney Eagle Sportscar was delivered direct to Shelby/AAR for Gurney to drive in the 1966 Can Am
on 8/6/66. The Lola T70 would win 5 out of the 6 Can Am races held in 1966, the Inaugural year of the Can Am, with this car winning round 2 at Bridgehampton. This was the first win for an American driver and the only win for FORD in
the entire Can Am series.
9/11/66 Can Am round 1 Mont Tremblant-St Jovite -Withdrawn with engine failure, creating second thoughts.
9/18/66 Can am round 2 Bridgehampton - 1st Gurney - revved to 9000 rpm, Amon/McLaren to 9500 trying to win.
9/24/66 Can Am round 3 Mosport - DNF after leading with 10 laps to go. Crankshaft, but official blame was "Battery".
10/16/66 Can am round 4 laguna Seca - DNF - Engine
10/30/66 Can Am round 5 Riverside -DNF - Clutch
11/13/66 Can Am round 6 Stardust Las vegas - DNF - Driveshaft
Replaced in 1967 with a new T70, but without the Eagle nose and no success as the McLarens and the Big Blocks had invaded the series. The car was driven by Swede Savage until a new Lola could be procured for him as well.

to Bobby Hogg 1980 who only drove it 300 miles prior to the fuel cell leaking
to Johan Woerheide 2004 who restored bodywork back to Spyder. Chassis, suspension, gearbox etc. all original.
